Oklahoma nurses and NKU's online programs

Both of NKU's published copies list Oklahoma the same way, so there is nothing to reconcile. NKU also insists that every preceptor practice in a state it has approved, so Oklahoma sites stay off the table even for students enrolled from elsewhere. Our state authorization page lays out every row.

Oklahoma sets its terms for schools based elsewhere in OAC 485:10-5-12. Pre-licensure schools ask the Board's permission first. For an out-of-state APRN program, the Board drops that step when three things line up: the student already holds an unencumbered RN license valid for Oklahoma practice; the supervising faculty member's own Oklahoma license is unencumbered and no lower than the level being taught; and the program satisfies the Board's standards for APRN education.

AANP rates Oklahoma restricted. For 6,240 hours, a new NP's prescriptive authority depends on a written statement documenting physician supervision, and Schedule II drugs are outside NP prescribing altogether. An Oklahoma income tax credit created by HB 3351 of 2024 also rewards Oklahoma-licensed clinicians who precept in the state's primary care settings.

Oklahoma has issued multistate RN licenses since compact implementation on January 19, 2018. Its large systems include SSM Health St. Anthony, OU Health (the University of Oklahoma's academic system), Hillcrest HealthCare System, Saint Francis Health System and INTEGRIS Health, concentrated in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros, with Lawton and Enid far smaller. Those names matter to NKU students only if NKU's table changes, so check the live page if you are watching for that.

Texas, Arkansas and New Mexico welcome NKU applicants to everything short of NP training: the RN-to-BSN, the education and leadership MSNs, and the DNP. Colorado adds the NP programs on top of those. Kansas and Missouri, Oklahoma's remaining neighbors, are not authorized for the MSN.

All four open neighbors belong to the compact, but the compact links a multistate license to the state you call home, so relocating means relicensing there. Check both of NKU's published lists before you move: the NP admission states and the authorization row for your program.
