A placement service built for NKU nursing students

We are a placement desk devoted to one group of students: those in NKU's online nursing programs. Our placement advisors know NKU's preceptor rules for each track, its Medatrax self-placement request, the three-part review and the rhythm of its 7-week sessions, because that is the only process we build placements around. We also work directly with the clinicians who precept NKU students, which keeps our picture of each rotation practical.

That focus is the point. An NKU FNP student needs a preceptor who meets NKU's rules, in a state NKU approves, with paperwork in the form NKU's reviewers expect and a start date that fits the Fall 1 to Summer 2 calendar. Knowing those details in advance is what lets us move quickly and hand you a request that is ready to file.

• Source a preceptor and clinical site matched to your NKU track, near where you live, in a state NKU approves.
• Screen every lead against NKU's rules before an introduction: credential, year in role, license, state, employment at the site and conflicts.
• Gather the preceptor's CV or resume and license, the signed Preceptor Responsibilities form and the site contact for any affiliation agreement.
• Have your Medatrax self-placement request ready well inside NKU's 90-day window.
• Stay on call through the session and start a replacement search if a preceptor steps away.
• Plan later rotations early, so each session's preceptor is lined up in time.

We use NKU's own names and NKU's own order. You enroll in your concentration's Canvas shell and the MSN Clinical Information Canvas, secure a preceptor who fits NKU's rules, and submit a self-placement request through Medatrax; coordinators and Contracts & Compliance then review it before Medatrax emails approval. We are also straight with students where NKU's own pages disagree. Older pages quote 500 to 600 NP hours while current program pages say 750; NKU's online FAQ still names InPlace while its clinical pages use Medatrax. When that happens, we flag it clearly and send you to your Canvas clinical shell or studentclinicalinfo@nku.edu for the final word.

We place students across NKU's online nursing programs: the MSN FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP; the post-master's FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP certificates and the NP-to-PMHNP certificate; the MSN in Nursing Education and in Nurse Executive Leadership; the post-master's DNP; and the RN-to-BSN leadership practicum. Our students live across the states NKU's programs accept, from Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati to Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Virginia and West Virginia. NKU's School of Nursing, part of the College of Health & Human Services in Highland Heights, sets the rules and makes every approval decision. NKU also runs its own MSN Student Placement Team, which supports students who ask for help locating a preceptor. Our service sits alongside that help and your own network, adding a dedicated search and complete paperwork.

Every approval decision belongs to NKU. Our job is to hand NKU's reviewers a request that is whole and within the rules on its first pass, so review moves on NKU's timetable rather than waiting on a missing form. Our comparison of the three routes lays them out together.
