NKU online nursing in Arkansas

An ADN-prepared Arkansas nurse can start with the RN-to-BSN, where the closing NRP 478P practicum centers on a quality-improvement project you design. BSN holders can move into Nursing Education, with 200 practicum hours, or Nurse Executive Leadership, with a 100-hour MSN 631L capstone. Nurses who already hold an MSN can go on to the post-master's DNP, whose project courses (DNP 881 to DNP 884) bring total post-BSN practice hours to 1,000.

If an NP role is your goal and a move to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana or another listed state is realistic, ask NKU admissions whether your new address qualifies before applying, and line up the RN license you will need there.

A search of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing's rules and web pages turned up no approval step for an outside school whose students only do clinicals in Arkansas. Out-of-state schools fall under 17 CAR Part 125 once they open a program inside Arkansas, while the APRN rules (17 CAR Part 123, Subpart 10) rely on national accreditation. Board staff have not confirmed that reading, so NKU's Contracts & Compliance team remains the final word for your site.

AANP places Arkansas among reduced-practice states. Every NP there keeps a regulated physician agreement covering some part of practice, and certain medications require a physician protocol. For NKU's open programs this matters less than it would for NP students, because your preceptors are nurse educators, MSN-prepared nurse leaders or DNP project partners. NKU still expects a year in role, an active license and employment at the site.

In central Arkansas, CHI St. Vincent, Arkansas Children's, UAMS Health and Baptist Health all run large operations around Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway. Mercy serves the northwest corridor and Fort Smith, and Jonesboro is the fourth-largest metro. Fort Smith's metro spills into Oklahoma, which NKU does not authorize, so Fort Smith practicums stay on the Arkansas side.
