Wyoming nurses and NKU

NKU's two table copies agree on Wyoming. Since NKU wants its preceptors practicing in approved states, Wyoming hospitals and clinics also fall outside NKU's preceptor pool for students living in Colorado or elsewhere. See the state authorization page for every row.

Wyoming's Board of Nursing sorts outside schools in its Chapter 6 rules. Each must first clear one of two gates: NC-SARA approval, or else registration with the state Department of Education. Post-licensure programs (RN-to-BSN, MSN, APRN, DNP) then need no Board approval, only a written notice to the Board whenever a student is headed for clinical learning in Wyoming, and the Board supplies a model letter for it.

Ahead of the first clinical day, the school and the facility sign a written contract, and the Board is entitled to a copy. LPN and RN programs preparing students for a first license carry a heavier load, requesting the Board's permission with a program description, a rationale, proof of home-state approval and faculty and preceptor licensure documents. None of this changes NKU's table, which keeps Wyoming closed.

Wyoming has had multistate RN licenses since January 19, 2018. Its legislature also adopted the APRN Compact, found in Article 3 of Chapter 21 in Title 33 of the Wyoming Statutes, making Wyoming one of five enacting states; the compact needs seven before it operates. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center serves Cheyenne. Casper's Banner Wyoming Medical Center belongs to Arizona-based Banner Health, Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie is a UCHealth affiliate, and Campbell County Health in Gillette and Sheridan Memorial Hospital round out the larger hospitals. Cheyenne, Casper and Gillette are the largest population centers.

Colorado is on NKU's NP admission list and authorized for every online program. Montana and South Dakota take NKU students in all four non-NP programs. Utah is authorized for the two MSN tracks and the DNP but not the RN-to-BSN. Nebraska and Idaho are not authorized.

All four open neighbors use compact licensing, and a compact license belongs to your home state, so relicensing follows a move. Check the live NP admission list and NKU's residency-change warning before you plan anything.
