New Hampshire residents are outside NKU's reach for online nursing programs with clinicals right now. NKU marks the state not authorized for graduate certificates and master's study, for the doctorate and for the RN-to-BSN, and it recruits NP students elsewhere. Vermont, across the Connecticut River, is the open neighbor for NKU's non-NP programs.

Because NKU also requires preceptors to work in approved states, New Hampshire clinicians cannot precept NKU students from elsewhere.
The visiting-school rule sits in Nur 602.15(j), under the heading "Distance Education-Pre-Licensure", and it binds approved pre-licensure schools from other states that sign contracts with New Hampshire facilities. Before any clinical time, the school registers its intent with the Board; for each placement it then gives six weeks' warning. Three filings are involved: a Form A petition once a year, a Part B student placement form rotation by rotation, and a Clinical Preceptor Agreement signed for every preceptor. Faculty from elsewhere who supervise students directly in New Hampshire need an unencumbered New Hampshire license, must meet the state's faculty standards and file an appointment form.
Post-licensure education is another matter. New Hampshire's licensing office places RN-BSN and RN-MSN programs outside what the Board of Nursing regulates. There is also a housekeeping question: Cornell's LII copy of Nur 602.15 carries a January 23, 2026 expiration, the licensing office referred to the rule in that same month, and research could not confirm a readoption.
New Hampshire NPs have full practice authority in AANP's ranking. The large employers are Concord Hospital Health System, Dartmouth Health (home of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center), Southern New Hampshire Health, Catholic Medical Center, which HCA Healthcare owns, and Elliot Health System. Elliot and Southern New Hampshire Health founded SolutionHealth, and in July 2025 their boards proposed dissolving it. The main markets are Manchester-Nashua, Concord and the New Hampshire part of greater Boston.
Multistate licensing arrived in New Hampshire with the compact's launch date, January 19, 2018. A New Hampshire multistate license works in other member states, and Vermont is one of them. NKU's program eligibility, though, follows where you live rather than where your license is valid. Our RN license page explains how the two interact.
Vermont clears NKU's master's, doctoral and RN-to-BSN rows; Maine and Massachusetts do not. NP applicants must live in one of the eleven states on NKU's NP application list, and New England has none of them. Should you move, double-check Vermont or any other destination against NKU's lists for your start term and get the license squared away; students already enrolled should talk with their advisor before moving, as NKU says relocation may affect program status.

No, even if the clinic is a short drive across the river. NKU only accepts preceptors practicing in approved states, and New Hampshire is not one, so a Vermont-based NKU student should search Vermont itself or another approved state.
Everything but NP training. In Vermont, NKU's educator and executive MSN tracks, its DNP and its RN-to-BSN are all authorized, while the FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP tracks need an address in one of the eleven NP states. Vermont belongs to the compact, so confirm your license will cover practice there.
