NKU accepts Nevada residents into its online FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP tracks and all four NP certificates, and its MSN, DNP and RN-to-BSN rows list Nevada as authorized. Two Nevada rules deserve early attention: patient care here requires a Nevada nursing license, and the Board regulates out-of-state programs that teach clinically inside the state.

Nevada made NKU's NP application list back when it held eight states, and it remains on today's list of eleven. The other three program groups are open as well.

Start with NAC 632.703. Any school that carries out part of its program within Nevada owes the Board a report, filed on the Board's own form, backed by evidence of accreditation or approval and of meeting NRS and NAC chapter 632. For programs delivered online, clinical teaching in Nevada waits on Board approval, and faculty who teach inside the state are expected to carry Nevada licenses.
Nothing in that rule sets graduate programs apart from pre-licensure ones. Even so, the Board's roster of out-of-state schools approved for a clinical-only presence, dated September 1, 2026, contains only ADN and BSN programs that lead to first licensure. How Nevada views NKU's graduate tracks is NKU's call to explain, so raise it with studentclinicalinfo@nku.edu before you promise a site your hours.
A 2005 Board practice decision sets further conditions for precepted clinicals: faculty stay in charge of the experience and can be reached by phone, preceptors get an orientation and written objectives from the program, and each preceptor oversees no more than two students at once while physically on site.
Nevada counts as full practice on AANP's map. The notable carve-out is Schedule II prescribing, which a new NP reaches only after two years or 2,000 clinical hours, or earlier under a protocol a physician approves. Because Nevada NPs may run their own clinics, an NP-owned practice is a realistic site for FNP or PMHNP hours, as long as the preceptor meets NKU's rules.
Searches usually center on Reno, Carson City or the Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas area. Large employers there include Sunrise Health System (HCA Healthcare), Renown Health, The Valley Health System, Dignity Health's hospitals in Henderson and Las Vegas, and UMC, Southern Nevada's academic medical center. AGACNP students need acute care hospitals, with emergency or urgent care capped at half of their hours.
Nevada has not signed on to the Nurse Licensure Compact. Holding a multistate license from Ohio, Colorado or Kentucky therefore gives you nothing to practice on here. A Board practice decision is blunt about scope: giving care to a patient who is physically in Nevada calls for a Nevada license, and education involving direct patient contact is on its list.

NKU's state table also authorizes Nevada for the MSN. You apply with a current, unencumbered RN license, which for a Nevada resident will be a Nevada license.
No. Nevada is outside the compact, and its Board treats care of any patient in Nevada, including hands-on student work, as needing a Nevada license. A Colorado multistate license, like any other, stops at the state line here. Get the Nevada license before your first rotation.
Nevada's Board guidance on precepted clinicals caps a preceptor at two students at a time, with the preceptor on site. NKU adds its own ratio limit but does not publish the number, and a preceptor already at the limit for NKU or another school cannot take you. Ask about current students before you request a session.
Under NAC 632.703, an online program must have the Board's approval before giving clinical instruction in Nevada, and graduate programs get no stated exemption. The Board's published list of schools approved for clinicals only shows pre-licensure programs. NKU is the one to confirm how it meets Nevada's rule for your track.
Partly. NKU's AGACNP track is built on acute care hospitals, and emergency or urgent care can count for up to 50 percent of your hours. Your preceptor can be an MD, DO, AGACNP, FNP or PA with at least a year in role who works at that site. The remaining hours belong in acute care hospital settings.
