What the best NKU placement service does

NKU accepts different preceptors for each track. FNP rotations can be precepted by physicians (MD or DO), NPs or PAs in primary care, with specialty offices capped at 125 hours. AGACNP rotations need acute care hospitals, with emergency or urgent care capped at half your hours. PMHNP rotations need a PMHNP or psychiatrist, plus up to 80 hours of therapy supervised by a psychologist, LICSW or LPCC. Nursing Education and Nurse Executive Leadership have their own educator and leader requirements.

On top of that, every preceptor needs twelve months in their current role, an unencumbered license in a state NKU approves, a job at the site itself and no personal tie to you. Every NKU online course lasts 7 weeks, and only one clinical is allowed per session, across six sessions a year from Fall 1 to Summer 2. Preceptor information is due at least 30 days before a clinical, with 90 days highly recommended, and each cohort's dates are posted in Canvas.

A service built for NKU plans backward from those dates. It asks which session your next course falls in, starts the search well before the 90-day mark, and keeps later rotations in view so each one has a preceptor lined up in time. NKU's review runs in Medatrax. The student files a self-placement request, coordinators check the preceptor, Contracts & Compliance checks the contract and compliance side, and Medatrax emails approval once all three portions clear. A capable service knows Medatrax is the working system, even though NKU's online FAQ still mentions InPlace.

It gathers the preceptor's CV or resume and license, prompts the Preceptor Responsibilities form, reminds the preceptor to build a Medatrax Preceptor Profile, and identifies the site contact for any affiliation agreement. It also checks your own compliance status early, since Contracts & Compliance reviews your PreCheck and Sentry items with every request. What you file is then complete the first time. Every NKU preceptor must be located in a state NKU approves, and NKU's NP programs accept applications only from 11 states. NKU's state table also has loose ends, such as South Carolina appearing in both columns and Virginia's status differing between two copies. A good service checks your state against NKU's current tables before searching and flags anything unclear. It should also know that NKU's MSN, DNP and RN-to-BSN rows differ, so the right row depends on your program.

Within those states, the search should start from your home and your commute. Ask how far the service searches and whether it can match your work schedule, since NKU asks preceptors to be available two or three days a week. Our NKU state authorization page explains the tables.

Before you commit, you should see a written quote that names the rotations covered, the work included and the terms for changes and refunds. You should also hear, plainly, that NKU approves every preceptor and site, and that the service's job is to make sure the request NKU reviews is complete and fits its rules.
