Connecticut nurses can study NKU's MSN in Nursing Education or Nurse Executive Leadership, the post-master's DNP and the online RN-to-BSN, with practicums at Connecticut sites. NKU's NP concentrations stay limited to 11 other states, and the neighboring states are all outside NKU's approved list, so plans center on Connecticut itself.

Both of NKU's state tables list Connecticut the same way, so the only limit is the separate NP admission list.
NKU's FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP concentrations and its four NP certificates accept applicants from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, Nevada, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. Connecticut isn't included, so a Connecticut nurse looking at NKU chooses among education, leadership, the DNP or the RN-to-BSN.
A nurse planning to relocate to one of the listed states should check two things before applying: that NKU admissions accepts the new address, and that an RN license will be valid there. NKU warns that moving during a program may affect your status.
Connecticut's compact participation started October 1, 2025. You can now complete NKU practicum hours here on a Connecticut license or on the multistate license issued where you live in another compact state. On practice rules, AANP calls Connecticut full practice, but only after an NP spends three years, and at least 2,000 hours, working collaboratively with a physician.
The Board of Examiners for Nursing, housed in Connecticut's Department of Public Health, oversees nursing education. Its rules on outside programs, such as the deemed-approval test in Regs. Conn. State Agencies 20-90-59 and the ratio and written-contract rules in 20-90-48, are framed around licensure-track programs as defined in 20-90-46. They say nothing specific about post-licensure or graduate programs like NKU's MSN tracks and DNP.
Section 20-90-51(f) does set a preceptor standard for advanced-level students: a BSN, two years of experience in that role or specialty, and RN licensure either in Connecticut or in the state where the precepting takes place. If a site's contract raises any of these points, NKU's Contracts & Compliance team handles it.
Connecticut's metros run from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford through Waterbury-Shelton and New Haven to Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury. The large systems include Hartford HealthCare, Trinity Health Of New England, UConn Health, Northwell Health (now the operator of Danbury Hospital) and Yale New Haven Health. New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are all in NKU's not-authorized column, so keep preceptors on the Connecticut side of every border.

Yes. Since Connecticut joined the compact on October 1, 2025, a nurse living in another member state can practice here on that state's multistate license, and a Connecticut resident's multistate license reaches other compact states. Before that date, a Connecticut license was the only route.
Not for NKU. Both states, and Rhode Island too, appear in the not-authorized column of NKU's MSN and DNP tables, and NKU requires preceptors in approved states. A Connecticut student near a border should look for a preceptor on the Connecticut side.
NKU looks for a nurse leader with an MSN, working at the nurse manager level or higher, in a hospital or another setting the program coordinator approves. The MSN 631L capstone covers 100 hours. Like every NKU preceptor, they need a year in role and an active, unencumbered license.
